What do May showers bring??

Oh how I love the rain!
The smell of freshly mowed grass being sprinkled with a drink of water is one of my favorites! BUT ... we were teased with a few sunny, beautiful day. So now these rainy days have made us even more anxious for summer!!

As Jackobi and I have exhausted most our indoor activities, we've begun to daydream about what the summer months will hold & have come up with quite a list!

go camping
cloud watch with Jackobi on a sunny day
picnics galore!!
☼ pick raspberries @ Grandpa Ike's
☼ swim!
☼ make homemade ice cream
☼ spend a day at the zoo
☼ star gaze
☼ long summer walks and BBQ's
☼ take Jackobi fishing!
☼ sidewalk chalk & hop scotch
☼ afternoons @ the lake
{soaking in some rays & splashing in the water
}
☼ fruit kabobs

☼ master making Summer smoothies!
☼ fly kites

I can't wait to check things off of our fun summer list! I'm sure there will be many more adventures in store, but these 'must do's' excite me!

What's on your list this summer?? Do share!!

...days like today...

Oh how I crave summer!

Once it's here, I'm almost certain I will say 'It's too hot!!' But for now, I'll enjoy basking in the sunny 57 degree weather we're getting. When the wind is not blowing that is!!! It almost felt hot today (pathetic I know!) It just goes to show how desperate I am for warm weather!

Today was a park day.
And oh was it a good one!
Slides galore, the kids were in heaven!
I love days like today.

I'm so thankful for good friends & their darling kids.
[we've been missing you Felicia & Evie!!]

We're looking forward to so many more sunny days at the park!

...sunny days...

Warm, sunny days have been few and far between.
We've really had to learn to capitalize on any MOMENT we have of sunshine!! Peyton got an awesome new sand and water toy & Jackobi was MORE than happy to help her break it in!

These two chicklets are so fun to watch!
I love being able to stroll across the street & have impromptu play dates. They're the best kind!

Love these girls! ♥
Here's to many more fun summer days!

State Baseball

When I think of State baseball
I can almost smell the barbecue charring hot dogs paired with the sweetness fresh cut grass.

The chattering of fans mixed with cleats scratching in the dirt ... ah the sweet familiarities that I was SO ready for this weekend!! Baseball has quickly become ingrained into me.

My picture perfect baseball weekend was quickly replaced with winter coats, freezing hands & swaddling Jackobi in blankets galore. Her rain boots did come in rather handy!!

Okay, so the first two days weren't NEARLY this bad, but it was still COLD! I know I wasn't ready for the early Spring baseball weather to return so readily!

Luckily were were able to take refuge at the hotel pool.
Jackobi had fun dancing from pool to hot tub and back again.
She thought it was pretty fun to have the guys there as well!

I must admit, they are pretty entertaining!

Check out those awesome tan lines??

Much to my dismay, it has become tradition for Minico's baseball team to shave mohawks into their hair when they go to State. Since baseball players are VERY superstitious ... they decided since they did this and WON state last year, it was necessary again.
This INCLUDES the coaches. Yep, that's right ...

Casey is luckily the only one who gets to dodge this tradition (which I hope is over since they didn't win State this year. :) )

We had a running joke.
In the picture above, one is an adult, one is a teenager.
Which is which?

We have since shaved Nate's mohawk down (thank goodness!!)
Now if only the hair would grow back!!
We won't be going anywhere hat-less (together at least) for quite awhile!!

These goofy boys definitely keep things interesting!

Among lots of other things, we were also able to celebrate JoEllyn & Camille's birthdays this weekend.

What a fun filled weekend!
State wasn't quite what I had planned on this year, but we had a great time.

And Minico will soon add another piece of hardware to their trophy case. 3rd place ... not too shabby!

Casey on the mound: Minico sinks Lakeland

By Ryan Howe - Times-News writer

Ernest Thayer’s baseball rhyme “Casey at the Bat” is a well-known classic about a star player from Mudville.

On Thursday, “Casey on the Mound” was another poetic masterpiece, this one about a star player from Spartanville.

Minico pitcher Casey Christiansen threw a gem in the Spartans’ 10-1 win over Lakeland in the opening round of the Class 4A state baseball tournament. The junior’s line: seven innings, three hits, 11 strikeouts, zero walks, zero earned runs.

“These are the moments you live for, the state tournament,” Christiansen said. “You just gotta love the moment and go out there and give it what you’ve got.”

The defending state champs loved nearly every moment of the lopsided victory, and hope that mojo continues into today’s 4 p.m. semifinals where the Spartans will face Bonneville (23-5), a 5-1 winner over Kuna on Thursday.

“A lot of people didn’t expect us to get to state this year and we’re here to show them that we’re going to give it our all and we’re going to play our best and play our game,” said Minico senior Dylan Winmill, who went 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and an RBI.

“We’ve had a plan all year, we’re the defending state champs and we have to come back and win it again, that’s our goal,” Winmill said. “Everybody’s got the right mindset and right focus to come back and get that.”

Minico (22-11) jumped on Lakeland pitcher Cody Vandever early and never looked back, scoring three runs on four hits in the first inning. The Spartans pulled out their arsenal of offense with clutch hits, heads-up base running and small ball execution.

K.J. Redder batted 3-for-3 with an RBI and Christiansen was 3-for-4 and drove in two runs.

Lakeland’s (13-12) only run came on a Minico throwing error in the fourth.

Christiansen faced five batters over the minimum while Lakeland only hit the ball out of the infield twice — a double in the first inning and a fly out to left field in the fourth. It was a fine pitching performance, especially considering Minico had no scouting report on the northern Idaho school.

“Coach (Ben) Frank said we were going to pitch to my strengths the first time through (the batting order) and see what they’ve got and try to use that as our game plan,” Christiansen said.

Minico 10, Lakeland 1

Isn't this a great article?? ♥ State baseball! More to come ...

Future Miss America ... I think so!!

Okay ... we MAY have to work on her make-up applying skills before that happens ... but still, who could resist that smile!??

Jackobi woke up a from her nap a little early.
The rustle in the other room should have been a red flag,
but I was determined that she would put herself back to sleep.
Soon the rustling made it clear that mischief was in full swing.
I walked in to find my little girl plastered with lip stick.
"Pretty Mommy!!" she exclaimed very proudly when she saw me.
She was SO PROUD of herself & gave me a genuine, "I feel pretty" smile.
How do you get mad at that??
It's not very often I get that smile eagerly for the camera!

A little embarrassed to admit that it was the SECOND time she had gotten
her paws on the Clinique freebie lipstick.
Rest assured ... that tube of 'Raspberry Glacé' is now very far out of her reach!

[sweet mommy moments]

Tonight Jackobi said her own night prayers.
Usually she just listens as Nate or I pray for her
then she'll add in an "AMEN!" at the end.
Tonight was different.
My heart was so happy as I listened
She blessed Mommy [twice actually :)],
Daddy, Grandmas, Papa's, family & friends.
Such a sweet moment for me.
My heart is still swelling with joy.
I love tender mommy moments like these.
I'm trying to soak them in everyday!

"Children are like trees. When they are young, their lives can be shaped and directed, usually with ever so little effort. Said the writer of Proverbs, 'Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it' (22:6). That training finds its roots in the home." -- Gordon B. Hinckley

Watermelon Weekend

The sun shone bright this weekend and I'm pretty sure on Saturday, we headed out the door before 9 AM to soak in as many of those rays as we could!! (you never know how long it will last!!) Since it has been so windy & rainy here this spring we had a mountain of yard work to tackle ... and managed to get a good portion of it done!! We had fun spending almost the entire day outside & I'll have to admit ... I love looking at Jackobi's sunkist cheeks! We had a little picnic & broke out our first watermelon of the year. Jackobi quickly devoured several pieces of her miniature melon. The crisp treat tasted especially juicy & sweet on our hot afternoon outdoors! I loved watching her sink her teeth into it & let juice dribble down her chin. Such carefree fun! I have a feeling our Spring has quickly jumped into Summer ... but we'll take it!!

I love watermelon weekends!
Hopefully there are many more to come!

Next on the list ... plant our vegetable garden.
We weren't going to plant one, but there is just something invigorating about being able to get dinner out of your back yard! It's my first one ... any tips of the trade?? This first time gardener could use all the help she can get!

...three's company ...

This fun little family of three came to visit this weekend & brought this sweet girl! Isn't she just beautiful!!?? We hadn't seen her since her blessing day a few months back & I was quickly reminded how FAST little babe's change! She has a fun little personality & the CUTEST smile! Jackobi was asleep for most of their visit, but managed to sneak a peak at little Lainey before they left & that's ALL she could talk about the rest of the day.

Look at that SMILE!! Nate was trying to get her to smile for me, guess he's pretty likable (or goofy ... take your pick!!) We're so glad we got to see these guys!! Hopefully the summer months will mean more trips up to see them.

...a successful season ...

I love this picture! Casey had hit a home run & his awesome team surrounded the plate to congratulate him ... good stuff!!

It's been a very rainy, cold and WINDY baseball season this year [I'm not sure why I'm surprised, that is pretty much typical Spring baseball weather! I guess we DO live in Southern Idaho!] ... Jackobi and I weren't able to go to as many games as we would have liked, but the weather is taking a sunny turn in the right direction ... and JUST in time for STATE!!!!

Minico beat Jerome this week in an intense battle for a trip to State. We're so excited to go cheer Case & his fellow Spartans on next week!

[and a trip to Boise never hurts either!]

Congrats Casey on a successful season so far!!
Good luck at State!!

...pomp & circumstance..

Jason graduated from ISU this weekend & we're so happy for him!!

He has accepted a position at an Accounting firm in Alaska and is headed there summer. We're excited to see what the next chapter of his life has in store.

I'm quite certain Nate is hoping an Alaskan fishing trip with your older brother is included in your adventure! {consider yourself warned! I'm sure he'll eventually invite himself!!}

Congratulations Jason on your accomplishment!
You're such a great example to us!

{Sisters & Sunshine}

My sister was home this weekend.
We laughed a lot, stayed up {way} too late & soaked up lots of sunshine.

Best of all ...
we successfully surprised my wonderful mom for Mother's Day.

[best weekend ever ♥]

My three favorite girls!!

A Flower Never Smelled So Sweet ...

My sweet little Jackobi planted me a flower for Mother's Day ...
She did it herself, [I could tell :)]

There was a pretty little card to go with it too. ♥

I just love being her Mommy!!!
